Connecticut Trails Day is celebrated on the first weekend in June. This year it is June 3 and 4. Sponsored by Connecticut Woodlands, there are more than 200 activities scheduled across the state. Two of them are right here in Suffield.

On June 3, the Suffield Land Conservancy is hosting an easy woods walk from the junction of Mountain Road and Phelps Road. in West Suffield to the power line cut and back. There is good birding and usually lots of lady slippers. The walk begins at 10 a.m. Please register online at trailsday.org/events/easy-walk-in-the-woods.

Also on June 3, there will be an edible plants walk at Hilltop Farm at 1 p.m. Our region is home to a variety of edible plants that have been used for centuries by Native Americans and early settlers. The walk is limited to 15 participants. Please register online at Hilltop FarmSuffield.org/events. The cost is $5 for adults and $2 for kids aged 8 and older.

Many more great hikes and walks are scheduled all over the state. Check trails day.org for the complete list.

Enjoy the woods!
