Jakob receives his award April 18 at Three Figs Restaurant with Rotary President Heidi Partain (l) and his mother, Traci Potter.

One of Jakob Potter’s teachers, Mrs. Bonnett wrote, “I have known Jakob for almost four years. In each of our classes together, I have seen that he goes above and beyond to be kind to his classmates, on a daily basis. Jakob truly takes an interest in how his peers and teachers are doing and always makes friendly inquiries about events and plans. He is a very diligent and conscientious student; he is responsible with monitoring his assignments and completing his work. Jakob has a beautiful smile; it especially shines when he is sharing happy moments and good news with the people around him.”

Mr. Kibby wrote, “I have known Jakob for a few years now, even though this is the first year I have had him in my classes. When Jakob was an underclassman, he would stop by in the hallways and ask how I was doing, and it became apparent to me quickly that he was a caring and thoughtful individual. Now that I have him in my class this year, I can affirm that Jakob is one of the kindest students I have ever had the pleasure of teaching. He goes out of his way to check in on others and make sure everyone is comfortable. He gets up without any prompt to pass out materials and books to other students, creates fun questions of the day, and is always kind to his peers. Jakob is the best, and I wish more people would treat others the way Jakob treats those around him!”

Theresa Sweeney, School Psychologist, stated that the three words she would use to describe Jake are generous, genuine and gracious. She explained that Jake is generous with his time and dedication to caring for others, which contributes to creating a positive school climate. This can be witnessed when he works for the Coffee Cart at school or is the announcer on the Morning News. Jake is the epitome of a person with good character who chooses to do the right thing, simply because it is the right thing. He is always ready to offer help to a peer. Jake has contributed his time and talents to Best Buddies throughout his four years at Suffield High School. He is gracious as his consistently courteous and pleasant demeanor are evident and bring joy to others. He is a role model for all who should strive to emulate his kindness.

Jakob was part of the cross -country team, is an active member of Best Buddies, Drama Club, and Unified Theater; he can often be heard singing the national anthem at various high school sporting events. He currently works as assistant chef at Cafe Barista and volunteers at The Craft. Next year, Jakob plans to attend Manchester Community College for Culinary Arts to become a baker.
