The Suffield Arts Council has slated the work of Joan Nelson, a self-taught West Springfield artist, for display during July, in the Pinney Gallery of the Kent Memorial Library.

Viewers will see a collection that includes landscapes, portraits, fantasy art, and her favorite subject, birds. She works in a variety of media, including acrylics, watercolors and egg tempera.

A member of Agawam Community Artists, her artwork is on display currently at J.H. Miller’s in West Springfield and at Handworks in Acton, MA. Her paintings may also be found in private collections, both locally and internationally.

Nelson offers classes for both teens and adults at her studio in Indian Orchard Mills. She teaches the “Terriers Around Town” children’s classes for the Red Thread Network for the Arts as well.

This show opens July 5 and will be on display through July, with a “Meet the Artist” reception in the gallery, on Thursday evening, July 13, from 6 – 8 p.m.

The combined efforts of the Suffield Arts Council, the artist, and the KML staff made it possible.
