The Suffield Veterans Memorial Expansion Committee is seeking nominations of veterans who entered active-duty service from Suffield, Connecticut and who served our nation worldwide during the Global War on Terror from September 11, 2001 to August 31, 2021.
Suffield Veterans’ names will be added to a new memorial in Veterans Park recognizing the service and contributions that Suffield residents have made to our nation’s security.
The following qualification criteria is established:
• Men and women whose principal address was in the Town of Suffield when they entered active duty.
• Service branches include Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force.
• Service must have been other than dishonorable.
• DD214 and/or other supporting documents must be submitted for review.
The committee timeline
Nominations for recognition on the Memorial expansion will be accepted from May 2023 until November 2023. The design of the new memorial will depend in part on the number of veterans who request to be honored. The design phase will begin in December 2023 with final approvals for the design to be completed by May 2024. Final installation of the new memorial is planned for November 2024.
Who should apply?
Veterans who entered active duty from Suffield during the period September 11, 2001, through August 31, 2021 should apply. Applications can be obtained at the Town of Suffield Web site at Our Veterans – Town of Suffield (suffieldct.gov).
Family members and friends of those who cannot apply on their own may also apply on the veteran’s behalf.
