Summer In Suffield Was One to Remember!
What a fantastic summer it was with all the good times, laughter and lasting memories that were created at the Suffield Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Camps and Programs. We sincerely thank everyone that has registered for our programs. July was the “National Parks and Recreation Month” and “Where Community Grows” was the theme. Throughout the year, we try to help to grow and foster a strong community through our programs, camps, classes and special events. We hope that you and your family have been enjoying all of our offerings.

We put on a variety of new events and programs this year in addition to our summer camp programs including: Movie Nights on the Green and at Babbs, Suffield Night at the Yard Goat Game, Concerts on the Green on Wednesdays, Summer Race Series, Fitness and Running Programs, Bowling Buddies Summer Programs and a Family Fun Fest.

Kids Korner and Morning Munchkins Camp
The Kids Korner/Morning Munchkins camp that was held this year at the Spaulding School was very fun and interactive. Campers ages three to Grade 2 enjoyed a variety of new themes each session that combined many educational lessons, arts and crafts, social and emotional learning, fitness and games.

At our large scale event days, campers also thoroughly enjoyed our Special Guests – the Suffield Fire, Police, and Ambulance Department and Suffield Youth Services.

Our interactive sessions that included “Space, Disney Days and Holiday Palooza” kept the campers very busy and engaged. Our event days with parents, family and caregivers were a big hit! Families enjoyed attending camp together on those days and enjoyed the special day with activities and ice cream, snacks and the camper award ceremony along with the Suffield Fire Department Fire House and a special skit put on by the campers!

Sunrise Park Day Camp
Campers in grades two through eight spent their summer days at Sunrise Park enjoying a variety of outdoor activities like kayaking, fishing, hiking, swimming, and an abundance of fun games.

The Suffield Parks & Recreation Department partnered up with the Suffield Fire Department each week to provide the campers with a Slip and Slide and Egg Drops. Throughout the summer we also had many fun themes. Each theme lasted for one week and was capped off with a fun party and dressing up on the Friday of each week. Some themes included Holiday Week, Carnival Week, Olympic Week, Disney Week, Messy Week and Survival Week. During Holiday week, campers celebrated the 4th of July, Halloween, Egg Hunt Day, and Valentine’s Day! During each holiday, campers participated in traditional holiday customs. For example on Halloween Day campers went trick or treating, ate lots of candy, and dressed up in their favorite costumes.

Our Sunrise Counselors, Junior Counselors, and Aquatics staff did a tremendous job throughout the summer providing the kids with a fun and safe camp experience. Counselors, lifeguards and directors arrived at camp each day with a positive attitude and eager to run around with the kids. We could not provide a safe and friendly camp environment without our astounding summer 2023 staff!

In addition to our traditional camps, we also offered a variety of other enriching programs including our new Fitness and Nutrition Camp, Cheerleading Camp, Crafting Camp, Paint It Up, Swimming Lessons, Baseball Camp, Premier Field Hockey Camp, Pickleball lessons, Pickle programs and Summer Tournament, Volleyball Camp, Soccer Camp, Tennis Camp, 241 Sports Camp, and a variety of game nights and Zoom for the Bowling Buddies Outing group throughout the summer. Babbs Beach and Sunrise have continued to be popular.

Our outdoor adult and family fitness and enrichment programs continued to be very popular. Programs included our: Powrburn, and Tababata Bootcamp programs instructed by Joseph Hicks-owner of TeamJTraining.com and our super fun Energizing Yoga flow program instructed by Laura Dromgold and our very popular “Ready to Run” instructed by Sarah Supino owner of XGT Fitness.

Many thanks to our hard working and dedicated camp staff, aquatic staff, gate attendants, program instructors, coaches and volunteers that have helped make all of the programs so fun and safe this summer and throughout the year. We also especially want to thank all those who have registered for our programs we hope you and your family will sign up for our many fall program offerings including the upcoming 43nd Annual Road Race that will be held on September 9.
