Second Chance Shop Awarded Grant

Thanks to the generosity of the Amiel and Mary Anne Zak Public Service Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, our shop was awarded a $11,785 renovation grant in April.

With the proceeds, we replaced inefficient fluorescent light fixtures and spotlights with new, more efficient LED panels and bulbs. We tore up our old carpeting and installed new carpet tiles. We also repainted the walls and purchased two new mannequins. We had not updated our 1,200-square-foot shop interior since 2011 when we moved from our former 35 High Street location.

We are so grateful for the support provided by the Zak family fund which has benefited numerous local organizations over the years.

On October 4, our corporate parent, the non-profit Village for Families & Children in Hartford, presented a plaque commemorating the generosity to Sara Zak, daughter of Amiel and Mary Anne Zak who represented the family and the fund established by her brother Michael in 2002. We’ve proudly mounted the plaque in our shop.
