In this photo by town photographer Roger Loomis, ca. 1950, workers at the Greer Farm on East Street South prepare pipes to steam the tobacco seed beds. Steaming was the common way to sterilize the beds, killing weed seeds and disease spores. From the February 2004 edition of The Suffield Observer
