It’s time for our KML Winter Reading for Suffield residents! To celebrate, we have programs and prizes for all ages! Our Adult program will run from February 5 through February 29. Our Children’s program will run from February 3 through March 2. Drop by the library to learn more. Thank you to the Friends of Kent Memorial Library for making this event possible.

Adult Programs

Movies at the Library – KML is showing movies again! Visit our website at www.suffield-library.org/ for more information, including this month’s movie showtimes.

Fiber Friendly – Wednesdays, February 7 and 21 at 4 pm
Do you enjoy knitting, crocheting, embroidering, or engaging in other fiber-related interests? Bring a project you’re working on or start something new! Join us on alternate Wednesdays for conversation, camaraderie, and fiber artistry. No registration required; marble table seats 10. Open to all ages, people under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cricut Machine 101 – Wednesday, February 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Did you purchase or receive a Cricut Maker that is now sitting in the box because you are overwhelmed? Come join our Suffield Resident Crafter Sarah Tschannen as she walks you through the basics of your new machine and Cricut Design Space! Learn about what types of projects you can make, what types of tools are included or what kind of material it can cut! At the conclusion of the class, you will get a chance to “weed” your own KML sticker to take home along with lots of knowledge to get you ready to open that box and get started on your own!
Space is limited; registration is required.

Rise to the Challenge Book Group – Monday, February 12 at 6:30 pm
Join us in reading and discussing books that have been challenged and/or banned. February’s discussion will focus on “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison. Copies of the book will be available at the library. No registration is required.

Learn How to Avoid Financial Fraud and Scams – Wednesday, February 14 at 12 noon
Kathleen Titsworth from the Connecticut Department of Banking will teach us about fraud prevention. From social media to banking and shopping, to applying for a job or signing up for classes, we are all using mobile devices and computers to share our personal information.
More than ever, we need to protect this information and ensure that we are being safe online. Learn important tips to protect your personal information from scammers who want nothing more than to steal your identity. We’ll also discuss common banking scams and tips to avoid being a victim. Knowledge is your best defense! No registration required.

Evening Qigong – Wednesday, February 21 at 6:30 pm
Join us this winter evening as we release stress and invite relaxation in with the gentle movements of qigong and yoga. The practice will consist of standing exercises, breathwork, and seated floor stretches. Bring a mat and any props you may have from home. For questions about this class, please contact pcincotta@suffield-library.org. Space is limited; registration is required.

Adult Winter Reading Wrap up Party – Thursday, February 29 at 1 p.m.
Come help us wrap up the Adult Winter Reading Program with food, a time capsule craft, and a movie. We will also be raffling off the prizes at that time. No registration required. First come, first serve.

Teen Programs

Nutmeg Book Club – Thursday, February 15 at 3:30 pm
Join us for our KML Nutmeg Book Club! Books will be available to check out at the library. Open to all people in grades 5-12. No registration required.

Kids Programs

Lego Club – Monday, February 5 at 3:30 pm
Join us for Lego Club! Participate in our building theme of the month, or construct whatever you can dream up. No registration required. Recommended ages 4+. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Thank you to the Friends of the Kent Memorial Library for funding this program.

Story Time – Tuesdays, February 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, February 7, 14, 21, and 28 at 10:30 a.m.
Recommended ages 2-5
Join us for stories, activities, songs and crafts. New themes every week. Registration appreciated; drop-ins welcomed. Register for each story time separately on our Events Calendar.

Rhyme Time – Fridays, February 2, 9, 16, and 23 at 10:30 a.m.
Recommended ages 0-5
Bring your singing voice! We sing, dance, blow bubbles — and have fun! No registration required.

Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration – Saturday, February 10, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. All ages welcome.
Learn more about Chinese Lunar New Year! There will be a craft, paper cutting, traditional calligraphy, veggie dumplings and games. Try it all and be sure to ask to have a bookmark made with your name written in Chinese and Korean calligraphy! Did you know that in Chinese, “upside-down” sounds identical to the phrase “good luck arrives”? Drop by and learn other interesting things! No registration required. Homeschool Families Listening Session – Thursday, February 22 from 1-2 p.m. All ages welcome
Homeschool families! We are hosting an informal listening session to ask the question: how can we better support you and your educational needs? Join us in the KML Children’s Room for a chat. Leap Year Scavenger Hunt – Monday, February 26 through Saturday, March 2 – All day; Ages 3-18
Celebrate the Leap Year by joining us for a frog-theme scavenger hunt around the KML.
Children’s Room! Follow a series of clues around the room to find all the hidden frogs and then enter a drawing for a Frog Squishmallow! Prize drawing will take place on Monday, March 4, 2024. Thank you to the Friends of Kent Memorial Library for making this event possible.
