The prep work begins.

First, we set up our tents in the field. We camped Friday night along with the Cub Scouts (Pack 266) and played “manhunt” at night before we went to sleep.

The next day we got up and started preparing the food. We peeled a lot of potatoes and made smashed potatoes using a masher.

The turkey was fried or cooked outside. Some of the other foods we had were vegetables, stuffing. and cranberry sauce. For dessert there was vanilla and chocolate pudding, plus lots of families brought things like cake, pie, and cookies. Scouts worked on different stations preparing food. We had a great dinner!

Our families and friends came to eat dinner with us and enjoyed all of our hard work. Cub Scouts and their families came too. There were a lot of people to feed – about 120!

After dinner was the hardest part, cleaning up. We had a lot of dishes to do and had to clean up the pavilion. (A Scout is clean!)

Finally, that night we had a special flag retirement ceremony where we had to burn flags that were not able to be used any more. This was a special and quiet time to honor the flags.

In January, we went winter camping in preparation of the annual Klondike Derby contest.

Note from the Troop:
