Seventeen-Year-Olds

Seventeen-year-olds can vote in a Primary if they are (1) turning 18 before November 5, (2) a U.S. citizen, (3) a bona fide resident of Suffield, (4) pre-registered to vote and (5) enrolled in the political party holding the primary.

Register to Vote

Voter registration and political party enrollment may be done online at VoterRegistration.CT.gov, by mail or in-person at 83 Mountain Road. Your completed application may be mailed in by March 15 or dropped off in-person.

March 15 is the deadline for mail-in and on-line voter registrations and political party enrollments. Note that there is a three-month waiting period, when switching from one political party to another, before attaining voting privileges in the new political party.

April 1, noon is the in-person deadline for voter registration and unaffiliated voters to enroll into a political party. ID showing name and proof of town residence is required.

Presidential Primaries

Presidential Preference Primaries will be held, in Suffield, for the Democrat and Republican parties on April 2, at the Suffield Middle School Gymnasium, 350 Mountain Road from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Early Voting, new in Connecticut, will be held on March 26, 27, 28 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Registrars of Voters Office on the second floor of the Town Hall.

Who can vote in the Presidential Primaries?

Only registered and pre-registered voters, enrolled in the political party holding the primary, are eligible to vote in their party’s primary.
Voter registration and enrollment cutoff dates:

  • January 2 was the cutoff date for switching from one political party to another There is a 3-month period of no party privileges before gaining the privileges of the new party.
  • March 15 is the mail-in voter registration/enrollment cutoff.
  • March 25, 12 noon a new registrant may, in-person, register/enroll and be eligible to vote starting the next day.
  • March 25, 12 noon is the in-person cutoff date for an unaffiliated elector to enroll in a political party and be eligible to vote Early Voting and on Election Day.
  • March 25, past 12 noon to April 1, 12 noon an unaffiliated elector may, in-person, enroll in a political party and vote on Election Day (not eligible to vote Early Voting).
  • March 25, past 12 noon a new registrant may, in-person, register/enroll and be eligible to vote starting in two days, March 27.
  • March 25–30, past 12 noon a new registrant, in-person, may register/enroll and be eligible to vote starting in two days.

Voting Methods Available

Suffield offers several voting options to their voters:

  • Absentee ballot voting options are 1) regular absentee balloting, 2) supervised absentee balloting, 3) emergency absentee balloting and 4) permanently physically disabled absentee ballot processing.
  • Early Voting and Polling place options are: 1) paper ballots completed by hand at a privacy booth then processed through a tabulator; 2) accessible voting device features a touchscreen display and includes alternatives such as audio, tactile keys, Jelly Bean button, sip’n’puff capability, and customizable displays to enable voters with a wide range of physical, sensory, cognitive and literacy abilities. The voter-verified paper ballot is then run through the tabulator; and 3) curbside voting for those temporarily incapacitated who are allowed to complete their ballot in their car.
