Making Peace with Doubt

Print More

I am so happy to say that our church is holding a Bible study for anyone who feels like dropping by. You see, our topic is Doubt. I figure that is something that everyone shares; myself included. Considering the diet we are fed from the news, day after day after day, some days it is difficult to be hopeful about our future.

Doubt should not be ignored; it should be talked about. While we will be approaching this topic from a Christian perspective, it is not a group exclusive to people from Christian traditions. It is for people of any faith, some faith, or no faith. We will be exploring how to talk about doubt without judgment. We will share stories from our histories as well as concerns about the present. Most importantly, we hope to build community.

On a personal note, whenever I am besieged by doubt about my abilities, decisions and even my faith, I have found that connecting with a sense of purpose gives me both direction and a sense of peace. Knowing I have a path to make some small difference in the world makes all the difference in the world for me.

Mardi Gras Lessons

Last week I was reminded of just how potent and moving knowing your purpose can be. The children of the church organized a Souper Bowl Sunday/Mardi Gras celebration. They gathered 462 food items for the town’s seniors and the apartments for the elderly. Then we sat down for a soup luncheon that added almost $500 in grocery gift cards to the lot! The children learned so much. They were so happy and most of them stayed upstairs after service in order to create sculptures from all the cans that they had accumulated.

So, I hope you join us. There will be food. We’ll gather in the parlor at West Suffield Congregational, 1-2 p.m. or thereabouts (we have the option of going longer if we choose). Even though we start on Wednesday, Feb. 21, we will meet each Wednesday for six weeks, so there’s time to join us. Please come for any of them or all of them, you might find it’s fun!
