Photo submitted by Chester P. Madey

When the clubhouse of the Suffield Country Club burned on New Year’s morning, 1953, this photo was taken by Chet Madey, who lived nearby. Volunteer Fireman Bill Dupont, standing in the foreground, was another neighbor. Fireman Ray Potter, who later became chief, is in the checkered jacket at the rear, with an unidentified fireman. Starting as an old barn that was moved to the spot in 1927, the clubhouse had been remodeled and expanded to provide living quarters upstairs. From the April 2004 Observer.
