One of the most effective ways to treat soil compaction and tree decline is with Bartlett’s Root Invigoration program.

We’re hosting two separate events. The first on Friday, April 26 from 11 to noon, is geared to professional development for arborists, landscape professionals and tree wardens and includes lunch and CEU credit. The second event on Saturday, April 27 from 11 to noon, is open to the general public and includes a demonstration and Q&A.

Like people, trees also need oxygen. When soil is compacted, mulch is piled too high around a tree, or a tree is buried too deeply to begin with, it restricts a tree’s access to oxygen. One of the ways trees respond is by creating new roots closer to the surface, roots that can cause damage down the road.

Join us for a first hand look at the “Tree Root Invigoration” process, which will include airspade excavation of the root collar, root pruning, soil cultivation and mulching best practices.

Even if you’re not available for the live aspect of this program, you’ll still be able to see the results. We plan to stop the process at the half way point on Friday at 1 p.m. and will leave it on view until we begin the second half of the work the following day at 11 a.m. Just stop by Town Hall any time in between to take a close look.

Professionals can register for the Friday, April 26 event by emailing: treewarden@suffieldct.gov.
