Rise to the challenge book discussion – Monday, September 9 at 6:30 p.m.
A book group for adults to read and discuss books that have been challenged and/or banned. Copies of the book will be available at the library. No registration required. BJ Smith Book Discussion – Wednesday, September 18 and October 23 at 2 p.m.
Don’t miss out on another wonderful book discussion series led by B.J. Smith at Kent Memorial Library. Join us for a three-part series of books that give us a view of Native American culture in contemporary times. The three-part series will be in three different genres: A collection of short stories, a mystery and a novel.

Holiday Decoration Collection and Exchange – Beginning September 30, we will accept donations for our Holiday Decoration exchange between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Decorations for all holidays accepted. We will collect decorations Monday through Friday, and the exchange will take place Saturday, October 5 starting at 10 a.m.

Bring your singing voice on Fridays! We sing, dance, blow bubbles — and have fun! Drop in. No registration required. Recommended ages 0-5.
Time for Tots – Tuesdays and Wednesdays September 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, and 25
Join Miss Wendy for an hour-long program of stories, activities, songs and playtime for ages 1-3. Registration required.
Teen Nutmeg Book Club – Thursday, September 19 at 3:30 p.m.
Join us for our KML Nutmeg Book Club! The September title is Cookies and Milk by Shawn Amos. Books will be available to check out at the library. Open to all people in grades 5-12. No registration required.
Smokey Bear Reading Challenge Kickoff – Saturday, September 28 at 10:30 a.m.
Ages 4-10 (but everyone is welcome)
Smokey Bear has encouraged wildfire prevention for 80 years! To celebrate, libraries have collaborated with the USDA Forest Service to celebrate with the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge. We’ll get participants started by taking the Smokey Bear Pledge, reading a book, and completing a few activities to earn badges.
Kids’ Scary Story Writing Contest – Submissions Accepted Monday, September 23 through Saturday, October 12
Open to Authors in Grades 1-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12
The Scary Story Contest returns! We’re looking for the scariest, most imaginative tales. This year, we’ve expanded our age groups to include all students from Grades 1 through 12. Pirate Week! – September 14-21 during regular library hours
Calling all future swashbucklers! Come to the library during pirate week for a Pirate Scavenger Hunt! Follow the clues and find the treasure! Open to all ages, no registration required. Younger captains may need assistance from their first mates!
