Suffield was buzzing with activity this summer, offering a variety of events and programs that showcase the town’s community spirit. From engaging youth camps to memorable outdoor events, the season was packed with opportunities for residents to enjoy and participate in.
Our summer day camps Kids Korner / Morning Munchkins Camp, Sunrise Day Camp and Adventure Camp provided children with enriching experiences and fun activities. These camps offer everything from arts and crafts to team-building exercises, and even trips to Brownstone Adventure Park, ensuring that kids of all ages have a blast while learning new skills. For those with a passion for sports, individualized sport camps were the perfect destination, including our partner camp, 2-4-1 Sports.
The town’s Concerts on the Green, sponsored by PeoplesBank, were a highlight of the summer, drawing music lovers to the heart of Suffield for evenings filled with live performances, after a few rescheduled nights due to the weather. These concerts not only offered fantastic music but also served as a great opportunity for community members to gather, relax and enjoy the warm summer nights.
Outdoor movie nights have become a beloved tradition, with families coming together under the stars to watch films such as: Barbie, Jurassic Park, Elf and Dirty Dancing. A special thanks to the Stephanie Salerno Team for generously sponsoring our outdoor movies.
For the more active residents, the 5K runs and the running club offered exciting challenges and a chance to stay fit while connecting with fellow runners.
This summer also featured an exciting trip to Tanglewood to see the legendary James Taylor in concert. This bus trip was a special treat for music enthusiasts, providing an unforgettable experience and a chance to enjoy one of the most iconic performers in a stunning venue.
Behind the scenes, our Recreation and Sports Department is bustling with positive changes. We are thrilled to welcome Matt Cummings as our new Recreation and Sports Programmer. Matt’s enthusiasm and fresh ideas are sure to enhance our programming and bring new energy to our community activities.
We are also proud to announce the promotion of Dan Leonard to Recreation Supervisor. Dan’s dedication and exceptional leadership have made a significant impact, and we are excited to see him continue to contribute to our community’s growth and success.
Our department’s excellence is further recognized with nominations for Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association awards. Congratulations to Donna Carney-Bastrzycki and Pam Cocca for their well-deserved nominations. Their hard work and commitment to our programs exemplify the high standards of our team.
Of course, none of these activities would be possible without our amazing year-round staff and seasonal counselors, lifeguards and other team members. Their dedication and enthusiasm are the backbone of our successful programs, and we are grateful for their contributions.
I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making Suffield a fantastic place to live, work and play. Thank you for making a summer filled with fun, community spirit and unforgettable experiences!
