Fall is officially in the air and cooler weather has arrived. Enjoy the fall colors and the season while it’s here.
Thanks to the Rotary and Knights of Columbus for organizing yet another successful Suffield On The Green. Thanks to those who participated, including our Town Departments and the DPW for setting up.
As you’ve already seen, we’ve changed the design of the island displays in the center of Town. We are looking for a small tractor for the larger island on Bridge Street. If anybody has one they would be interested in donating, please reach out to my office. Who knew it would be so difficult finding one in our farming community! Thank you to Vincent Farms for donating what’s currently in the displays.
Residents on Mapleton continue to ask what the status is of the sidewalk project from over three years ago. As it stands, the Town cannot get right of way approvals from a few residents. As it stands, the project will not happen unless that changes.
We look forward to once again doing our Trick or Treat at Town Hall this year. Any businesses adjacent or close to Town Hall are welcome to join us that day. Please reach out to my office to coordinate the timing. You can find the exact date and time on the Town website as we get closer to Halloween.
Happy to announce that we have hired a new Library Director. By the time this issue comes out, she will have already been a week into the new role. Stop by and say hello to Amy Vessella!
Lots of events going on in our Community Services Department which includes Youth Services, Parks and Recreation, and the Senior Center. Check out what they have lined up and sign up for many of the free programs.
Finally, over these last few months, numerous accidents have occurred in Town which have unfortunately let to fatalities or serious injuries. I strongly encourage our residents to slow down and be more cognizant of what is on the roads. I also encourage you to reach out to your State legislators and CT DOT to take stronger protective measures on the roads that run through Town that we have no control over to include: East Street, Mountain Road, Main Street, Grand Street, Mapleton, and many others. The State looks at statistics to measure and determine what can or cannot be put into place, but their failure lies in the fact they do not live on these roads and rather than take preventative measures, they wait for the “statistics” to grow. Those statistics are people’s lives. The Town is well aware of the safety measures we can take, we just need the State to allow us to take action. Please join us in reaching out for stronger action.
Again, enjoy the Fall season and I look forward to seeing you at my coffee hours the first and third Friday of the month or during my Community Tour. And as always, my door is always open.
