The Agriscience students at Suffield have been very busy this month! We started the school year off strong with our annual welcome back picnic, where students received their chapter t-shirts. These new chapter t-shirts included our chapter’s theme for this year, which is “ENGAGE”. We also had some very special guests this month when we invited multiple other chapters from the state of New York to join us here in Suffield. Suffield Agriscience students gave tours of our school and were able to participate in team bonding activities. Our students are very lucky that they got this opportunity to meet other chapters and learn how they operate. After the tours, we brought the New York chapters to Roaring Acres Alpaca Farm and Hilltop Creamery where both chapters got to feed and learn about the alpaca industry and enjoy some delicious ice cream.
One of the students’ favorite field trips was to the Big E in September. Landscape and Building Structures classes attended early to set up this year’s Landscape Design display, themed “Harvest Time”, which earned them fourth place in the competition! The rest of the 11th and 12th grade classes attended the Big E on September 19. This trip included lots of good food, interesting exhibits, and new traditions such as the Seniors going down the iconic big slide together. The 9th and 10th grade students attended on the 27th, where they had the opportunity to observe a goat show and learn about the showmanship industry.
Looking towards the rest of the year, holiday sale committees have started work, organizing activities such as make and take night, and the Suffield Farmers Market. On October 22, representatives of our chapter traveled to Indianapolis for the 97th annual National FFA Convention. Students attended workshops, met other agriscience students, and even went to a national park!
Suffield Agriscience has accomplished a great deal of work in September, and we are excited about the months ahead!
