Worldwide, local Repair Cafes are extending the life of products and keeping them from landfills by bringing together skilled volunteer “fixers” who repair broken household items for free.
Typically, the clinics are set up in a church hall or similar location for several hours on a Saturday. Local residents like you come with malfunctioning products or clothing needing repair. Think of the lamp with the broken switch in your living room, the favorite skirt with a torn hem, the kitchen knife that no longer cuts roast beef cleanly or your 21-speed bike with a misaligned derailleur.
Fixers are expert DIYers and professionals alike. No college degree or certifications are required. Residents supply critical parts. Are you a fixer with a skill you’re willing to share at an upcoming Repair Cafe sponsored by Sustainable Suffield? If so, please click here to fill out the application.
If enough expert fixers apply, Sustainable Suffield has tentatively scheduled the first Repair Cafe for March 29 at the Suffield Senior Center.
We’ll stay in touch to check your availability.
So, don’t throw out your child’s stuffed animal with the torn seam or your toaster that no longer toasts. Help should be on the way!
