Town Center Village District Updated with TIF Grants

Downtown Suffield is experiencing a revitalization thanks to an innovative grant program aimed at bolstering businesses within the Town Center Village District. Spearheaded by First Selectman Colin Moll and Economic Development Specialist Chad Kuzontkoski, the program offers a financial incentive for businesses to help them undertake enhancing renovations, covering up to 80% of eligible project costs with a cap of $25,000 per applicant.

This project is possible due to the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District that overlays the Town Center Village District. An increment of property taxes that are paid by property owners in the district are deposited into a dedicated fund. This fund can be used for different enhancement programs to benefit the businesses that have paid into the fund.

The response to the grant program has been exceedingly positive. The first wave saw 17 businesses receiving approvals, and the second wave granted an additional five. Each of these businesses is now reinvesting in their spaces and contributing to the district’s vibrance.

The following businesses participated in the program: Markowski Dental Associates, Scoop Dujour, Chestnut Oak Associates, Fairway Independent Mortgage, Suffield Village Market, Suffield Wine & Spirits, Karenough Crafts & Boutique, The Retirement Dr., JSW Media, The Suffield Observer, 133 Mt. Rd. LLC, AGN Dental, BGC Counseling, Zantos, DiLorenzo Insurance, Suffield Village LLC, Innovative Wealth Managers, Suffield Cooperative Preschool, Dunkin’, Francesco’s Pizzeria and Restaurant, Second Chance Shop and Suffield Pizza and Family Restaurant.

Feedback from business owners has been inspiring, with many expressing gratitude for this boost that allows them to enhance their facilities and better serve their customers. Residents, too, have taken notice of the improved storefronts and upgraded business spaces, remarking on how these changes add to the charm and appeal of Suffield’s Town Center.

Beyond aesthetics, these renovations strengthen Suffield’s economic landscape. By supporting business growth and modernization, this program makes the district more appealing to residents and visitors alike, with a welcoming atmosphere that encourages local shopping and dining.

With the continued success of this program, Suffield’s Town Center Village District stands as an example of how focused economic initiatives can lead to thriving communities. I’m grateful to have played a role in this project and am excited to see the positive impact it will continue to have on our town and our hardworking local businesses.
