General Programs

Winter Reading starts February 1 – This year’s theme for Winter Reading is BRR-ing on the books! The program will run for the month of February, and we’ve got a great line-up of programs and prizes for adults and kids. This year, instead of a small weekly giveaway, the adults will get two raffle tickets each week, one for one of the three grand prizes and one for a weekly raffle prize. In the kids’ room we will be giving out one raffle ticket each week for one of 12 grand prizes for the kids and we have a fantastic lineup of programs for them too! Read anything and everything you like, books, audiobooks, magazines etc, everything counts! So, let’s get to reading and have some fun!

BRR-ing on the Self-Care Wednesday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m. –  Stop by and let Karen from Karenough’s Crafts teach you how to create your own custom bath salts and foot scrubs. All supplies will be provided. Go home with your very own creation! Registration is required.

BRR-ing on the Fitness Saturday, February 15 at 10:30 a.m. – Stay healthy this winter with a 60-minute Qigong session that improves circulation, oils stiff joints, warms muscles and boosts immunity. Registration is required.

BRR-ing on the Facts Saturday, February 15 at 3 p.m. – JFK Assassination- “Analyzing the Zapruder film” This program invites people interested in learning about what really happened that day in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963.

BRR-ing Out Your Dancing Shoes Wednesday, February 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Fred Astaire Studio – Put on your dancing shoes and come to Fred Astaire’s Dance Studio, located at 68 Bridge St, to learn some fun dance moves. No experience needed. Open to all levels. No partners needed, but feel free to bring a friend for a swinging great time. Registration is required.

BRR-ing Out Your Crafty Side Saturday, February 26 at 10:30 a.m. – In this workshop with book artist Krista Narciso, participants will learn how to make their own softcover books from scratch. Fold, sew and create books that can be used as journals, sketchbooks, or notepads. Sewing schemes for three-hole and five-hole pamphlet books will be shown. Participants can expect to have time to make 1-2 books and will go home with bookbinding instructions, so you can continue to make more books on your own! Registration is required.

BRR-ing on the Fun!!! Thursday, February 27 at 2 p.m. – Join us for our Adult Winter Reading wrap up party for a live drawing of the raffle, food and fun!

Thursday Readers Book Discussion Group Thursday, February 27 at 1 p.m. – Get together on the last Thursday of the month with other readers to discuss a book. Books are available at the library. Registration is not required. The February title will be “The Marriage Portrait” by Maggie O’Farrell.

Tech Time Every Wednesday, 1:30-3:30 p.m. – Do you want help with your laptop, smartphone, or tablet? Don’t let technology frustration hold you back – come to KML Tech Time on alternate Wednesdays! Whether you need help troubleshooting an issue, setting up a new device, or downloading eBooks and eAudiobooks, we’ve got you covered! No registration required. First come, first served.

Rise to the Challenge Book Discussion Monday, February 10 at 6:30 p.m. – A book group for adults to read and discuss books that have been challenged and/or banned. Copies of the book will be available at the library. No registration required. Please be aware that this group discusses books which may include sensitive topics. The February title is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

Wanderlust Wednesday February 26 at 2 p.m. –Wanderlust Club – where travel enthusiasts unite to celebrate the thrill of adventure and discovery. Come join your fellow travelers (or people interested in learning about different places) to swap stories, share experiences and travel tips!

Books and Beyond Thursday February 6 at 7 p.m. via zoom – Join us for our Books and Beyond discussion with the best-selling author Mikki Brammer. She will be sharing her stories and journey about her debut novel, The Collected Regrets of Clover. Her book was nominated as a Goodreads’ Readers Favorite Debut Novel of 2023! Registration is required, copies of the book are available at the library.

Fiber Friendly Wednesdays, February 12, and 26 at 4 p.m. – Do you enjoy knitting, crocheting, embroidering, or engaging in other fiber-related interests? Bring a project you’re working on or start something new! Join us on alternate Wednesdays for conversation, camaraderie, and fiber artistry. No registration required; marble table seats 10. Open to all ages; people under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Kids and Teens Programs

Take Your Child to the Library Day! Saturday February 1 – Today kicks off our Winter Reading program, and we’re having a carnival party to celebrate! Stop by the Children’s room anytime today for face painting, caricatures, popcorn and raffle tickets!!
Author Matt Ryan will be joining us from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lunar New Year Saturday February 8 at 10:30 a.m. – Learn more about Lunar New Year! There will be a craft, traditional calligraphy, veggie dumplings and games. Try it all! Did you know that in Chinese, “upside-down” sounds identical to the phrase “good luck arrives”? Drop by and learn other interesting things!

Valentine’s Slime Saturday February 8 at 1:00 p.m. – Roll up your sleeves and get busy making slime for your valentine! We’ll have all the ingredients for fun. Open to grades K – 12. Registration is required.

Science Heroes: Adventures of the Lost Treasure Tuesday February 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Second Baptist Church – For Grades K-5 and their families. Science and stories collide! Join us on an interactive adventure as we explore the exciting world of science through hands-on experiments! Learn all about explosions, air pressure, chemical reactions, and more!

Secret Agent Training Camp Wednesday February 19 at 10:30 am – Do you have what it takes to be a secret agent? We’re hosting a training camp for future secret agents. We’ll learn about secret codes, the art of disguise, and more! Ages 6-12. Space is limited, registration is required. After registration is complete, attendees will receive a password to allow them entry to the camp.

Teen Nutmeg Book Club Thursday, February 13 at 3:30 p.m. – Join us for our KML Nutmeg Book Club! Books will be available to check out at the library. Open to all people in grades 5-12. No registration required.
