Second Baptist Church has entered a time of transition with the resignation of Senior Pastor Rev. Justin Cox at the end of 2024. During this time, the lay leadership and staff continue to lead the congregation in the various ministries at Second Baptist.

During February, our Sunday worship services will be led by familiar faces:

  • February 2 – David Jones – Deacon and active member of Second Baptist
  • February 9 – Rev. Tom Carr – retired minister of Second Baptist
  • February 16 – Rev. Dr. Judy Allbee – retired Executive Minister of American Baptist Churches of CT
  • February 23 – Rev. Tom Carr

An Interim Pastoral Search Committee has been formed and is engaged in hiring an interim minister to provide spiritual leadership while a Pastoral Search committee is being selected to head the task of selecting a settled pastor to lead the church going forward.

Activities scheduled in February include:

  • Saturday, February 8 – Soup Kitchen Ministry – Serving a meal on the 2nd Saturday of the month for anyone in need at the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen at South Congregational Church in Springfield, MA.
  • Monday, February 10 – Special Needs Fellowship –Monthly outreach program for our friends with cognitive limitations to give them a safe environment for crafts, singing, and fellowship meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month.
  • Tuesday, February 11 – hosting American Red Cross Blood Drives in Fellowship Hall. For an appointment, please visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
  • Sunday, February 16 – we welcome Kevin Ramsdell, Executive Director of the Springfield Rescue Mission during the service with additional time after the service to share the mission of SRM and the progress on the Women’s Program Initiative, which will provide education, job training, and temporary housing for women in need in the greater Springfield area.
  • Tuesday, February 18 – hosting Kent Memorial Library “Science Heroes: Adventure at the Lost Treasure” program at 1:30 pm in Fellowship Hall. Call KML (860-668-3896) for additional information and RSVP.
  • Saturday, February 22 – HYMN SING POTLUCK – 6:00 pm – Bring your voice and a dish to share as we sing praises to our Lord!
