Are you one of the few but very lucky people to have seen bald eagles flying over our town? I have, and it was totally thrilling, not just because of their size and majesty, but also because of their relative scarcity. In fact, bald eagles were once so endangered that many considered whether to replace them as America’s national symbol. The ongoing story of their recovery as a species is a comeback story worth hearing. Join the Garden Club on Monday, March 3 as we welcome CT Master Wildlife Conservationist Ginny Apple to our town to talk about these magnificent birds and their resurgence in Connecticut.
A native Texan, Ginny Apple was one of the first full-time women sportswriters in the country, who left the field mid-career to pursue a path in communications/public relations. Through the years she has hiked, climbed, kayaked, skied and poked her way through the outdoors and developed a passion for all things natural. A move to the middle of the woods in Barkhamsted 18 years ago brought her into an environment filled with eagles, bears and other wildlife. She gives over 100 talks a year, illustrated by beautiful, full-color slides.
This program is free and open to the public.
Program: Monday, March 3, Doors open 6:00 pm, Program 6:30-7:30 p.m. Kent Memorial Library, 50 North Main Street, Suffield.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help beautify our community is welcome to attend a Garden Club meeting to learn more about the Suffield Garden Club and the good work they do in town. Organized in 1934, the SGC is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing Suffield’s green spaces, both natural and cultivated. Visit suffieldgardenclub.org for more information.
