First Church of Christ, Congregational UCC in Suffield, is an open and affirming congregation within the United Church of Christ. We invite everyone to join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m., either in-person or via our YouTube livestream. Come as you are, for this is God’s house—a house of prayer for all, where God embraces everyone who enters!
The season of Lent begins on March 5, Ash Wednesday, which we will celebrate at 6:30 p.m. with an Agape Meal and worship together. We will gather in Fellowship Hall for a potluck soup dinner and then transition to an Ash Wednesday service. All are welcome to join us! In Greek, there are many words for the different types of love. Agape is the highest form of love, and it means the love God feels for humanity and humanity’s love for God. It was common in early Christian times for people to gather in a home to share a communal meal before worshipping together.
Thursday, March 6 at 12:00 p.m. is our next Lunch Bunch! Bring your own lunch to First Church and join Rev. Diann and other First Church friends for a social lunch gathering.
Our Women’s Fellowship hosts a “Wine, Cheese, and a Good Book, please!” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 13 in the E. Gay Room at First Church. We will be discussing the book The Prayer Box by Lisa Wingate. It’s not too late to read the book and join us!
Rev. Diann Bailey continues to offer a vibrant and dedicated Wednesday morning book study on Zoom at 10:00 a.m. each week. It’s never too late to join! Email First Church for more information.
The Blessing Box, located right in front of First Church, is open to our neighbors and community members, encouraging you to “take what you need; leave what you can.” We invite community donations, but please refrain from giving leftover foods, items requiring refrigeration, or expired goods.
First Church also hosts support groups for NA, Families Anonymous, and AA meetings in our building. The Phoenix AA group meets weekly on Mon., Tues., and Thurs. at 12:00 noon in our upstairs conference room. Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. is the Suffield Men’s AA meeting in Fellowship Hall, and WeCovery NA is hosted every Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (entrance located behind the church in the lot for evening meetings). Email a church for a full list of support groups in the area.
First Church of Christ, UCC Suffield cares about the safety of everyone connected to the church. In the event of inclement weather, the church building will close if needed. If it is a worship Sunday every attempt will be made to have meditation or worship available on our YouTube page in place of our usual livestream. Closings due to weather can be found in the CT Closings and Delays through NBC, FOX, and Channel 3 WFSB.
Email the church office with questions, general inquiries, pastoral needs, or to arrange an in-person appointment at First Church. May the warmth of God surround you today and every day. Blessings!
