Daniel Whelan

Daniel Whelan, a 2020 graduate of Suffield High School, has self-published two books with a third presently in the research phase. The book series is called Land of the Divided. There is talk of a fourth book that will follow but no release date for the third or fourth book is available at this time.

Daniel wants the reader to think about history in the framework of “what if.” In Book 1, Daniel writes, “what if in 1786, an unsuccessful rebellion did not fail. What if its beliefs and followers gained traction and the momentum spread across the United States.” What if…

Daniel takes that change in history and applies it during the years 1914-1918, when, in our present timeline, we experienced World War 1. Each book in the series represents each year (1914-1918) as it follows the alternate history timeline and what it might look like if “what if.”

Daniel stated “When historians write alternate histories, they just think inside the box. Because they base their alternate histories on the evidence they have, instead of thinking about other possibilities. Instead of concluding what happened, they should be imagining what could have happened. We can never truly predict what happens in history. I bet the Greeks and Persians during Alexander the Great’s time never could have imagined Alexander the Great conquering the Persian Empire, nor did the British think the Americans could break themselves free from British rule.

History is always unpredictable so we should be more wild with our alternate history ideas, not just confound them.

Be more imaginative, chaotic, just because history is chaotic. The ebooks can be found at https://www.lulu.com.
