Senior Center & Mini Bus News – February 2026

As Suffield continues to value community, independence, and quality of life for residents of all ages, one important service often goes unnoticed: town-supported and donation-funded mini-bus transportation for our senior citizens.

For many of our older residents, driving is no longer a safe or realistic option, especially when traveling to an unfamiliar destination. Without reliable transportation, access to medical appointments, grocery shopping, senior programs and social activities can become limited—impacting both health and well-being. Suffield’s Mini-Bus Transportation service provides meaningful benefits.

Access to Essential Services: Reliable transportation helps seniors attend medical appointments, run errands and stay connected to local resources.

Independence and Dignity: Seniors can remain active and engaged in the community without relying solely on family or caregivers.
Reduced Social Isolation: Transportation enables participation in programs at the Senior Center and other community events, helping combat loneliness.

Affordability for Fixed Incomes: Donation-supported and town-funded services offer a cost-effective alternative to vehicle ownership.

Support for Families and Caregivers: Reliable transportation eases the burden on families balancing work and caregiving responsibilities.

A Stronger Suffield Community: Shared transportation reduces traffic and emissions while helping seniors continue to support local businesses.

Senior transportation is more than a convenience, it’s a vital community service that supports aging in place and reflects Suffield’s commitment to caring for its residents. Continued awareness, community support, and engagement help ensure these services remain available for those who need them most.

You can help make a positive difference in many ways: become a part-time paid retiree driver, volunteer for cleaning or donate to help fund services. If you are interested in helping in any of these ways, please reach out to Peter Leclerc at: 860-668-3322 or email, pleclerc@suffieldct.gov
