Recently, the Suffield Rotary honored two Suffield High School seniors at the Suffield Country Club.
Congratulations to the Rotary Student of the Month for January, MaryKate Mormino!
School Counselor, Mrs. Deming, remarked, “MaryKate knows how to get a job done. She gets tasks done efficiently and effectively. She is kind, respectful, hardworking, and actively involved in a variety of activities inside and outside of school while balancing schoolwork.”
Film and Video Teacher, Mr. Casinghino, reported, “MaryKate has been one of the most generous, kind, and talented contributors in our school community during her past four years at Suffield High School. She has worked on our Morning Update daily news show during all that time, where she has shown herself to be a very effective leader, communicator, and team player. In our video production program, she has made great achievements in producing notable short films, PSAs, news segments, and a variety of other projects. She was a lead figure in our production of a major school-wide endeavor last spring, the lip dub music video that involved everyone at SHS and generated a highly successful movie. Currently, she has just completed a piece for the Student News program of Fox61 on the Friends of the Library in Suffield. MaryKate has shown herself to be extremely worthy of this honor.”
Social Studies Teacher and Drama Club Advisor, Miss Blais, said, “If you need a go-getter, you need MaryKate. MaryKate has drive, passion and is well organized to get whatever you need, done! Through Drama Club, the International Thespian Society, Quiz Team, NHS (and more), I have seen MaryKate blossom into a human who is well respected and loved by those around her. She listens. She is open-minded. She wants to help those around her make a change for the better. On top of this, she takes on challenges and says ‘Yes’ to big tasks that most would get nervous with. As only a sophomore, she stepped in and DIRECTED the Unified Theatre production (something I’ve never seen before as this is usually an honor for a senior!). She leads without hesitation and is not afraid to voice an opinion- even if it is different from the rest. The world could use more MaryKates.”
Congratulations to the Rotary Student of the Month for February, Prarthana Ray!
English Teacher, Mrs. Candia-Bovi, said, “Prarthana is a kind-hearted, thoughtful presence in our classroom. Through her warmth, humor, and gentle leadership, she brings her classmates together and helps create an environment where others feel comfortable. She consistently goes out of her way to make those around her feel seen and valued.” Mrs. Deming noted, “Prarthana is exceptionally kind, thoughtful, and respectful. She’s hardworking and willing to help others. She manages her time well by balancing a full course load while being actively involved in sports and extracurricular activities. She leads with compassion, understanding, and kindness.”
Miss Blais reported, “Prarthana is a ray of sunshine. I have been working with her in many different capacities throughout the last four years. She has blossomed from a quiet introvert to a leader (within many organizations) in her class. She is a conscientious student and has become a human that I can rely on. Prarthana balances her school work and extra-curriculars wonderfully, allowing her to volunteer (NHS), lead (Model UN) and work towards her own future (FBLA). She has been an active member in the student council and a voice that individuals trust and respect.”
Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Smith, added, “Prarthana is persistent, willing to rise to a challenge, and extremely hard-working. She is also kind, loyal, and has a gentle heart.”
Way to go, MaryKate and Prarthana!
