Second Baptist News

Trusting in God is often like driving in Boston with my husband, Ray. When someone else has the wheel and is following the GPS, you have no real control. This transition from the driver’s seat to the passenger’s seat can lead to a lot of uneasy feelings and the urge to offer “strong suggestions” from the sidelines.

Events in our lives often leave us with that same sense of unease. We find ourselves questioning how God could allow certain things to happen, and we frequently try to rely on our own abilities to improve a situation. We might even try to grab the steering wheel back, only to find our lives veering into chaos because we have acted outside of His will.

Proverbs 3:5 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” While naturally we want control, our own abilities aren’t enough if we aren’t trusting Him.

Trust doesn’t always happen overnight; it is something we must learn over time. We eventually discover that God is trustworthy, even when life is bumpy and things don’t go according to our plans. To truly trust with all your heart means letting go of your own understanding and giving everything to Him. When we give Him full control, we can finally find rest in a peace that comes from God. As your faith is strengthened, you will find that the need for control fades, freeing you to rest in Him and enjoy the ride He has planned. – Sue Schneller, Christian Education Coordinator/Youth Director

As in the past we are sponsoring supporting Suffield Community Aid and their annual Backpack Program. Even though the school year is over and children are on their summer break, we are organizing our collection for school supplies to donate to Suffield Community Aid. School supplies can be dropped off at the church Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:00 am-noon or Sunday mornings. If wanting to drop off during the week, please call the church office at 860-668-1661.

Growing In God’s Garden

June 14 was a wonderful Sunday at Second Baptist Church. The children celebrated “Growing in God’s Garden”. They recited poems and scriptures and reminded everyone that we’re still growing and God is watering.
