Sacred Heart News

I have never been a fan of pumpkin spice, I lean toward cinnamon apple and truth be told, regular coffee black is hands down my year-round favorite. Hopefully, we can still be friends! One of the blessings of October is that nature gives us much to ponder. The green leaves of summer change into an assortment of colors from vibrant yellows, oranges and reds to dusky browns and tans as they are swept to the ground noting the coming of the winter season.

In his classic book, The Fall of Freddie the Leaf, Leo Buscalia reminds us of the seasons of life in constant transition. As people of faith we look for and hope for not the last thing but the transition to the next thing-the fullness of life in eternity. We often speak of the “autumn of life” in terms of just waiting for the end but the beauty and the dramatic changes of October offer many opportunities to live life to the fullest all the time. At every age.

At Sacred Heart Parish, we are doing all of the “things” of living our lives completely. We are celebrating new births and baptisms and welcome our young families to join us the first Tuesday of the month, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. to join us for a baptism prep class in the church. Parents, and if possible, Godparents should attend to learn about the steps of the ceremony but most importantly the significance of their child’s first steps in the life of faith. We continue the high energy and excitement of faith-filled learning with our monthly “Pray Date” for parents with young children. In addition to our Religious Education Program for kindergarten through grade 9, we have a newly formed Youth Ministry for our high school aged students and their friends.

Members from all “seasons of life” are welcome to dance the night away at our annual Barn Dance on October 24. A family-friendly event where generations come together and share some good food and fellowship.

We will have opportunities to pray together, as well as sharing talents through the Music Ministry or Prayer Shawl Ministry. Taking the time to remember and grieve the “fallen leaves” through our Jesus Wept Ministry. Finding quiet time in the church for your personal prayer during the day, enjoying the warm autumn afternoon in our Prayer Garden or reflecting on the outdoor Stations of the Cross, or in the Mary Garden.

There truly is something for everyone at every season. For more information about any of the ministries and programs available for you at Sacred Heart Parish this autumn, please visit us online at www.sacredheartct.com, or stop by our campus at 446 Mountain Road here in Suffield.

Just as the leaves fall to the ground so do many seeds; the little “helicopters” from the maple trees, pinecones and acorns, nature replenishes for future seasons. We are secure in our hope for future generations! We seek ways to share our gifts and knowledge from one generation to the next. Not fearing the next transition but savoring the moment life that warm cup of cinnamon apple cider or pumpkin spiced latte.
Enjoy the season! God bless!
