The Suffield High School Drama Club invites the community to experience Arthur Miller’s powerful classic, The Crucible. Performances will be held November 19, 20 and 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Suffield High School Auditorium.
Set during the Salem witch trials of 1692, The Crucible follows a community consumed by fear, suspicion and accusations. At the center of the story is John Proctor (Jack Loranger), a farmer forced to confront his past and decide how far he is willing to go to protect his reputation and stand up for the truth. Abigail Williams (Gianella Gonzalez), a young woman with a complicated connection to Proctor, quickly discovers the power her accusations can have over the people of Salem. As fear spreads, her actions set in motion events that become increasingly difficult to control. John’s wife, Elizabeth Proctor (Rebekah Urquhart) must navigate the consequences of her husband’s past while remaining true to her own principles.
Other central characters include Reverend Parris (Lillian Macsata), Salem’s minister, whose concern for his reputation adds to the community’s tension; Reverend Hale (Lincoln Eisenhaure), an expert in witchcraft who arrives confident in his ability to identify evil; and Judge Danforth (Jack Tautic), the powerful official overseeing the trials.
Although the events of this production took place more than 300 years ago, Miller’s story continues to challenge audiences to consider what can happen when fear becomes more powerful than facts.
The production showcases the dedication and talent of more than three dozen Suffield High School students both onstage and behind the scenes. The Drama Club is excited to bring this challenging and thought-provoking work of American theater to the Suffield community.
The SHS Drama Club is also proud to give back to the community through the production. Each night, a donation will be collected to benefit Suffield Community Aid, supporting its efforts to assist members of the local community. Please bring canned or goods to be donated prior to Thanksgiving.
