Second grade students at Spaulding Elementary School welcomed the Hartford Symphony Orchestra Instrument Zoo on Thursday, June 8.

The children were treated to a brief demonstration and informative lesson about some of the instruments, and they were invited to try several of the instruments that they have been learning about in their music class. The auditorium was filled with sounds of the trumpet and trombone from the brass family, the flute and recorder from the woodwinds, the violin, viola, and cello from the string family, and many percussion instruments.

The PTO helped to plan and fund such a wonderful event and many parent volunteers assisted that day. The children have been learning about the instruments of the orchestra throughout first and second grade, so this was the perfect way to finish the year!
