In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Suffield Public Schools began providing meals to all children 18 and under last March. By the end of June, we had provided almost 70,000 meals. The Connecticut Department of Education has allowed us to continue to provide these meals in the 2020-21 school year even as schools reopened. We are providing free breakfast and lunch for those attending school in person, those participating in distance learning, and all children 18 and under.
Reimbursement for these meals is provided by the federal government, so there is no cost to Suffield. In fact, providing these meals benefits the town by reducing the subsidy provided to the food service department by the Board of Education.
All students attending school in person are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch provided in each school’s cafeteria. The menus for each day are available at: https://www.suffield.org/departments/food-services/menus. Families are also eligible to pick up their students’ breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday on Friday.
