On Saturday, March 20, The Suffield Fire Department hosted a specialized stabilization and extrication drill, instructed by members of Connecticut Custom Fire Training team at the Highway Garage on Fyler Place. Firefighters from Suffield, Warehouse Point, Windsor Locks, and CT Air National Guard gathered to train and learn how to stabilize and safely remove victims from these unique and difficult scenarios.
Firefighters were presented with situations such as a car pinned underneath a tractor trailer, a person stuck under an excavator, heavy objects crushing vehicle passenger compartments, and unique and heavy vehicle impacts that make rescue and extrication difficult. Firefighters are taught and trained to think outside of the box and examine all the challenges that these unique rescue situations present while maintaining the safety of all first responders at an emergency incident.
