Let’s be real – life can be hectic, stressful and sometimes downright exhausting. That’s why National Random Acts of Kindness Day, celebrated every year on February 17, is the perfect reason to take a moment to spread a little joy wherever you go. The rules? There are none. Literally! Do something nice, make someone smile and feel awesome doing it!

It likely does not surprise you to hear that kindness is contagious. Buying a coffee for a stranger, complimenting someone’s outfit, or letting someone cut in line can set off a chain reaction of kind acts and positive vibes. Around the nation, schools, offices, businesses and libraries encourage kind acts, turning an ordinary day into a celebration of goodwill. And the best part? You don’t need a cape or superpowers to play along. A simple smile, a sticky note with a kind message, helping a neighbor carry groceries or even letting someone merge in front of you onto the highway are easy ways to promote kindness.
Random Acts of Kindness Day is far more than just a social media hashtag. It’s a reminder that tiny gestures can leave a profound impact. That text you send, that door you hold or that compliment you give might just turn someone’s bad day around. And let’s be honest–watching someone light up because of something you did? It’s an instant happiness booster for you, too!
For myself, part of the fun lies in the creativity. There are so many ways to show kindness. Want to leave surprise notes on strangers’ cars? Go for it. Want to donate a small treat to a local shelter? Amazing! Even the tiniest effort, a cheerful “good morning,” a warm smile, sharing your dessert, or lending a hand with a task–can have a greater impact than you realize, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
So, this February 17, get playful, get creative and get kind. Leave a little joy wherever you go. Sprinkle kind acts everywhere, give it freely and enjoy the happiness it brings. Small acts of kindness, big smiles, and endless possibilities–because the world could always use more awesome, and today, you’re the reason it happens.
P.S. Make sure to stop by the library this month. We have an amazing Winter Reading program for adults and children happening until February 28. We hope to see you soon!
