Senior Center & Mini Bus News – October 2026

Starting October 5, every Monday is Pizza Day. Just like a normal lunch, you need to sign up ahead of time and the cost is $6. You will always get pizza, chips, and a drink. SCA is not covering this meal for those on the lunch subsidy list. No shows will be charged.

UR Community Cares has received a grant from the Suffield Community Fund at the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation for a series of free tech help appointments and free tech help workshops here at Suffield Senior Center. UR Community Cares follow AARP’s trusted technology education curriculum and will be here on the second Tuesday of every month for eight months starting in November. From 8:30 – 10 a.m., there will be one-on-one tech help appointments available that you can sign up for with Bethany. Then from 10-11:30 a.m. there will be a tech help workshop open to all. The schedule of topics is as follows:

Senior Center Lunches
Lunches are $6 and include tea, a cold beverage and dessert.
Please make reservations by noon the day prior.
Please bring your own container for leftovers.

  • Tues, Oct 13 – Turkey sandwich with bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato, onion rings
  • Wed, Oct 14 – Glazed pork chop, broccoli with cheesy orzo
  • Thurs, Oct 15 – Shepherd’s pie, green beans, roll
  • Tues, Oct 20 – French toast, sausage patty, yogurt fruit cup

Mini Bus Trips
Mini Bus trips require five passengers and are weather permitting. Reservations for October trips will open on Sept 20. Call 860-668-3844 to make a reservation.
Reminder! Starting in October, you MUST give Marzena your ride information by 8 a.m. the day before.

  • Shopping at Walmart – Thursday, October 29 – Pickups begin at 8:30 a.m.

Senior Center Activities

Picnic at Sunrise Park – Friday, October 9 – 11:30 a.m. FREE! Must pre-register with Bethany.

Armchair Travel – to Germany Monday, October 19 – 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
FREE! Virtually traveling to Germany while trying German food. Time has been moved to 10:30 to accommodate the new Monday lunches.

Chinese Mahjong – Wednesdays 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

American Mahjong – Wednesdays 1 – 3 p.m.

Floral Design Class with Bob Whitney – October 20, November 17 and December 15
Morning class 9-10 a.m. Evening class 7 – 8 p.m. $45/class. Registration required. Bring your own shears.

Marylou’s Meatball & Spaghetti Fundraiser – Sunday, October 18 – 1 p.m.
Missing Marylou’s cooking? Pre-register for $15 to attend our fundraiser for the kitchen. Price includes a meatball and spaghetti lunch and one bingo card. Additional bingo cards available for $5/card. Prizes, music, and all your favorite people will be there!

Fairytale Castles of King Ludwig II Documentary – Monday, October 26 – 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
FREE! Popcorn! Learn more about King Ludwig’s castles in Germany.

Halloween Lunch – Thursday, October 29 – 12 p.m.
Included with lunch sign up on this day. We will have a Sweet Apple Station where you create your own dessert by topping apple slices with caramel, M&Ms and other fun toppings.

Stateline Medicare Workshops – Tuesday, October 20 and 27 and November 3 – 10—11:30 a.m.
Stateline Senior Services is providing information on Medicare options during open enrollment. Free class, no registration required.
