Suffield Community Fund Seeking Volunteer Committee Members

The Suffield Community Fund at the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation (formerly Hartford Foundation for Public Giving) is accepting applications from community members interested in serving on its volunteer committee.

The Suffield Community Fund Committee is a group of volunteer residents who help identify local needs, shape grant priorities, and review proposals for projects that enhance quality of life in Suffield. The committee makes grant recommendations to the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation. In 2025, the Suffield Community Fund awarded more than $33,500 to local nonprofit organizations recommended for funding by the committee.

Since launching Community Funds in 2019 in each of the 29 towns it serves, including Suffield, Greater Hartford Gives has supported more than 1,000 grants totaling more than $4 million (through the end of 2025) – funding projects that directly benefit town residents and reflect community priorities and lived experience. The program began with a $100,000 investment per town in 2019 and has continued with additional investments in 2021 and 2025, including funds available for immediate grantmaking and long-term endowment.

The committee meets twice a month, typically on Wednesday evening, for 90 minutes. Subcommittee and other work is done between meetings. Meetings are currently held on Zoom. In addition to reviewing grant applications (generally once a year), the committee focuses its attention on issues including:

• Promoting awareness of the Suffield Community Fund and its activities.
• Continuous assessment of the assets and needs of our community, as well as the available services
• Using proactive strategies to ensure that nonprofit organizations are aware of grant opportunities.
• Recruiting and retaining committee members.

The committee seeks to have a membership that reflects the diversity of the Suffield community, possessing an array of complementary skill sets, life experiences and the ability to work collaboratively with one another and with Greater Hartford Gives Foundation staff.

Volunteers must reside in Suffield, be at least 14, and meet program eligibility requirements. Candidates for elected office, elected officials and immediate household family, individuals who have donated to a Community Fund within the past 12 months and current Foundation staff are not eligible to serve. Application forms can be found on the volunteer page of the Greater Hartford Gives website https://greaterhartfordgives.org/community-funds-volunteer-information/ or by emailing the Committee at suffield@greaterhartfordgivescf.org
