Summer is just about here. That means preaching in different places, meeting new people, and working hard to plan our next year at West Suffield Congregational Church. I have several theological tomes set aside for summer reading. We’ll be working hard, organizing and figuring out how to implement a new junior high youth group, which should bring a lot of energy and fun into the church (and maybe a little pandemonium to boot).
As summer draws to a close, there will be a special joy in reopening the doors of our sanctuary and gathering once again in the space we call home. While the warmer months will have brought a welcome change of pace and the opportunity for our ministers to share worship leadership in a comfortable air-conditioned setting, there is something irreplaceable about returning to the familiar pews, stained-glass windows and sacred spaces that have witnessed generations of prayer, praise and fellowship.
The reopening of our church on September 13 is more than a return to a building; it is a homecoming. It is the sound of familiar voices joining together in song, the sight of friends greeting one another after summer travels and the renewed sense of community that comes from worshiping side by side. The rhythms of church life that may have paused during the summer begin anew, reminding us that faith is not only a personal journey but a shared one.
As we open our doors once more, we do so with gratitude, for a season of rest, for those who faithfully led worship throughout the summer and for the blessings that await us in the months ahead. May this new season be filled with joyful worship, meaningful fellowship and fresh opportunities to grow in faith together.
