Town Road Repair Progress

In early June, Peggy Robards and Blair Childs watch from their driveway as the paving crew advances down Halladay Avenue West at the speed of a slow walk. After a sprinkler truck wets the milled surface for good adhesion, a dump truck loads hot asphalt mix into the paving machine, which meters the mix onto the road while several workers spread shovelfuls on low spots. Then the road rollers pack it all down. This was the first of two layers following the milling operation, which grinds away the old surface. Town Engineer Gerry Turbet said that the Town's mill-and-pave road repairs contracted for this summer were pretty much on schedule and might be complete by the end of June. More road work was being put out to bid. Most of the town will soon be smoooooth.
