At this year’s May Market, on the 12th of the month, Joyce Zein, right, contemplates the utility of an unusual narrow spade as Jan Piepul of Chicopee and Kathleen Horrigan discuss other matters. The Spear Head Spade, handy for digging in stony or resistant soil, was offered at the unsheltered kiosk of Glorious Outdoors, a business in Windsor. Many vendors had set up shelters at the market, and with others situated in the Phelps-Hatheway barn, the light rain didn’t badly handicap the Suffield Garden Club’s popular event.
