Lotus Flower Lantern Workshop. Tuesday, August 4, 2 p.m. at the Suffield Senior Center. Open to children, aged 9+ and adults. Come and enjoy an afternoon of Korean culture and history! The members of the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project will be on hand to help you make a lovely lotus flower lantern using colorful paper and wire frames. Traditional Korean refreshments will be served, and a short documentary on the Korean artistic tradition will be shown. The Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to raising awareness of Korean history and culture. Since 2008, KSCPP has presented various programs on Korean history and culture in the United States.

Around the World Book Discussion: The Blackwater Lightship by Colm Toibin. Thursday, July 21 at 7 p.m. Shortlisted for the Booker Prize, Toibin explores the relationships in a Irish family. Love, family, AIDS and dysfunction.
Allen Ginsberg’s iconic Howl will be the topic of discussion when B.J. Smith rolls into town on Tuesday, July 26. 6 p.m. at the library. The poem is available at the library in advance.

Books in the Phelps-Hatheway Parlor: The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert. Tuesday, August 23 at 2 p.m. This is the first in a series of discussions at this lovely estate when we will explore books set in America during the 18th century. Gilbert’s critically acclaimed novel The Signature of All Things was inspired by a very real colonial Philadelphia estate with a surprising horticultural history.
