Parents, friends, and some very special eighth grade students gathered in the Suffield Middle School’s library at the end of the school day on May 24 for a happy occasion. Eight students had been selected by the faculty for a number of awards based on various combinations of admirable characteristics other than academic and athletic prowess – though academic skills were certainly not lacking in these winners, and some were definitely athletes. Following some enjoyable snacks, a bit of socializing, and introductory remarks by Assistant Principal Ashley Molden and Superintendent of Schools Karen Berasi, the awards were announced.
First came Elizabeth McCoy, who received the Secretary of the State Excellence in Citizenship Award. Then Jenna Uzdarwin and Remington Ferarri were the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Leadership Award winners. The Suffield Middle School Principal’s Awards went to Clara Maffei and Joseph Puia. The Connecticut Association of Schools Scholar Leader Awards were given to Jewel Hazlitt and Nicholas Sinofsky. And the Connecticut Association of School Superintendents Award was won by Paige Anderson.
These great kids were commended for showing outstanding citizenship and leadership, along with being helpful, reliable, kind, and great role models for their peers.
