Where in the World Is the Observer?

The Suffield Observer was given the privilege of traveling with Ron and Opal Gilmore to Normandy during this year’s observance of D-Day, June 6, 1944.  Opal is part of an Arizona chorus that was the only choral group invited to represent the USA in this year’s D-Day Memorial Parade and Musical Salute.  While there, Opal sang in many historic venues.  The photo shows Ron and Opal in the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach.

Scouts of Boy Scout Troop 66 paused for their portrait with the Observer on the Mall in Washington, D. C. on a camping field trip in May.  They bused in from a Kampgrounds of America site outside the city for a fantastic time visiting most of the important sites.  From the left: David Fitzgerald, Sam Petrucci, Johnny Riley, Joe Dion, Tommy Fitzgerald, Christian Dion, Michael Riley, Adam McDonough, and Ezra Audet.

Dwarfed by the fabulous architecture behind him, Kyle Laviana is posed with the Observer in front of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, in Florence, Italy.  He was completing a 90-day immersion semester in June at Stanford University’s campus there and had an opportunity to visit Naples, Pompeii, Venice, Rome, Sicily, Switzerland, and Paris.
