The Town celebrated its first “Scare-it-up-Suffield” fall event with tremendous success. Twenty-three scarecrows were entered by local businesses, Girl Scout groups, the general public and Town departments. More than 80 children and adults joined in on the fun afternoon with face painting, a Halloween movie, snacks and dancing to the music of Thriller.

Residents Chris Rago, Stephanie Dolan, Brian Casinghino, Janine Crane and Erica Fearn had the challenging task of judging the winners, as every entry was creative and created meticulously.

Congratulations to the winning entries:

Most Creative – “In the Brew,” First Selectman’s Office

Funniest – “Pay Up,” Tax Office

Prettiest – “Mrs. Suffield Dance Studio,” Girl Scout Troop #10971

Spirit of Suffield – “Sporty,” Parks & Rec Department

Youth Award, 12 and under – “Daisy the Girl Scout,” Girl Scout Troop #11963

Most Creative Name – “Lettuce Turnip the Beet,” Highland Park Market

People’s Choice – “Dr. Gourd and Spooky,” Suffield Veterinary Hospital

Special thanks to the Suffield Rotary Club who generously donated cash prizes for the winners. The winning Town Departments graciously re-donated their prizes to the Suffield Emergency Aid Association. The Parks & Recreation Department, Kent Memorial Library, Senior Center and Youth Services invite you to mark your calendars for next year’s event, which will be held on October 14, 2017.
