Come to Cinderella – and Have a Ball!

“Impossible things are happening every day!” How true this is, for at Suffield High School, on March 16, 17 and 18, you will find an impossibly wonderful show! We cordially invite you to SHS Drama Club’s production of Cinderella.

Far removed from the original Grimm Brothers tale, and even the well-renowned Disney movie, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella first came to life in 1957 as a TV special, starring Julie Andrews. It was brought to the screen again in 1965 with Leslie Ann Warren and in 1997 with Brandy and Whitney Houston as her fairy godmother. In 2013, this televised fairy tale was transformed (much like Cinderella before the ball!) into something even grander, a Broadway musical. Songs were added, characters were re-worked, and concepts expanded. No longer the simple storybook, this piece now touches upon themes of kindness, leadership and love. The show was a major success on “The Great White Way,” and we believe it will be here on Sheldon Street as well!

Our production features nearly 60 SHS students who take up various roles within a cohesive, passionate cast, and a brilliant crew. The show follows Ella (Caelie Flanagan) and Prince Topher (Ben Grigoriou) as they try to find themselves and each other, despite the wishes of Ella’s step-mother (Cara Smith) and Topher’s royal advisor (Ezra Fisher). With the guidance and help of Ella’s fairy godmother (Olivia Grimard), the young couple learns the power of possibility and is able to create change in their own lives and in their kingdom. Their journey is filled with many laughs and beautiful R&H songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” and “Stepsister’s Lament.”

Please excuse us as we break the fourth wall here (aah, theater jokes!), but we, as two senior members of the drama club, are especially excited for this show. We are overjoyed for this opportunity to work amongst such a wonderful group and to share this beautiful and hilarious tale with our community as a final celebration of our high-school careers. So come and join us in our “own little corner” (aka Suffield High School!) on March 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 pm! Tickets $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors.
