National Assoc. of Letter Carriers Food Drive

“Help Stamp Out Hunger.” On Saturday, May 13th residents of Suffield can donate non-perishable food and non-food items to the Emergency Aid Association Food Pantry simply by leaving the items in or near their mailbox. Carriers will collect the items and deliver them to the Food Pantry the same day. For more information, please call the EAA at 860-668-1986.

James F. Coggins, Jr. Community Service Award

In memory of our late volunteer and Board Member, James F. Coggins, Jr., the EAA offers a $1,000 award to a graduating Suffield high school senior who demonstrates selflessness, generosity and concern for the community through their volunteer activities. Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay supporting their selection to the EAA at 450 South Street, Suffield, CT 06078 or email to eaa@suffieldeaa.org. The deadline to apply is midnight on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Jane Purtill Fuller Scholarship

To recognize the many contributions of our past employee and long-time supporter of the Emergency Aid Association, the Board of Directors dedicated an annual needs-based scholarship in memory of Jane Purtill Fuller. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating Suffield high school senior pursuing a nursing or social service field of study. Applicants wishing to apply are encouraged to fill out the common application at the Suffield High School or call the EAA at 860-668-1986. The deadline for applications is May 15.

Camp Subsidies Available at the EAA

The Emergency Aid Association has funding available to subsidize participation for eligible Suffield children and youth attending Suffield Park & Rec. and other camp programs. For more information, please call the EAA at 860-668-1986.

The Salvation Army Camp Opportunities

Summer camp registration has begun for the Salvation Army Camp CONNRI in beautiful Ashford, CT. The camp is open to children age 8-12. The youth overnight camp is only $35 for four nights! Call the EAA for specific dates at 860-668-1986.

Ellington Regional Housing Rehabilitation Program for SUFFIELD Homeowners

If you are a low or moderate income household, (ex. family of four may earn up to $65,800) you may be eligible for a deferred payment loan with no interest and no payments as long as you own your home. The loan can be used for roofing, septic, well, plumbing, heating, electrical, handicap accessibility, asbestos/lead abatement, carpentry and other repair work on single and multi-family units up to 4 units.

Call the EAA at 860-668-1986 or the Ellington Community Development Office directly at 860-870-3132 on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. You may also leave a message with your name and address, download the application on the Town of Ellington’s web site or apply in person on Tuesdays at the Ellington Community Development Office.

EAA and Suffield Lions Provided Vision Screenings for 617 Suffield Children

These two organizations also partnered to  conduct “KidSight USA” vision screening in Suffield’s pre-schools, elementary school, middle school and intermediate school during the week of March 27. A total of 617 children were screened with 30 children referred to their physicians for potential vision issues. The screenings used the Welch-Allyn SPOT Camera. Unless vision problems are detected early and corrected, they risk becoming permanent.
