The Suffield House, on North Main Street just north of the Gay Manse, was once a private home but became a hotel after the railroad came to town. Albert Graves took over in about 1890 and expanded the business with a new third floor and a big ell in back. After prohibition ended the bar business in 1920, Suffield School, a.k.a. Suffield Academy, bought the place to become staff housing, calling it Faculty House. Along with two homes to the north, the old hotel was torn down years later to improve the look and use of the school's east side campus.
