To help celebrate National Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Month, we have a few special things planned for June.

We are having a Garden Dedication on Tuesday, June 13 at 10 a.m. to acknowledge the sponsors of our Community Garden Revitalization Project: North Central District Health Department and Connecticut Department of Public Health with special assistance provided by Home Helpers of North Central Connecticut and Lauren Perleoni from The Potting Shed in Suffield. (Kathleen Mack and I will be planting our lettuce!)

Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist Gina Martin will join us on Wednesday, June 14 at 11 a.m. to show us how to make a healthy, refreshing smoothie (while providing samples to try). Following this healthy theme, we will serve baked haddock for lunch that day with a baked sweet potato and roasted fresh vegetables ($5 per person-reservations required). Following bingo at 2:15 p.m. we will have a free cooking demonstration sponsored by MeadowBrook of Granby. You will enjoy a sample and walk away with some to take home. Please register for the free smoothie and cooking demonstration by June 9 to ensure we have enough for everyone who would like to attend.

Hearing Screenings

NOVA Hearing Services provides free hearing screenings, clean hearing aids, a battery check, and will answer any questions you have regarding hearing or hearing devices on the first Monday of each month at 1 p.m. Call to schedule an appointment.

Balance & Fall Prevention

Thursday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older Americans. According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2014, twenty-nine million older Americans experienced a fall. One out of five falls causes a serious injury, such as a broken hip or head injury. As we age, physical changes and health conditions can increase our chances of falling. Injuries from falls often lead to a decline in independence. Join Jennifer Meier, MPT, CLT, CKTP, Cert MDT, from Primary Sine and Rehab (formerly Suffield Health and Wellness) for this free informative presentation. She will discuss the issues that contribute to falls and teach you how to decrease your risk.

Blood Pressure Screenings

June 14 and 28 at 11 a.m. sponsored by Emergency Aid Association.

Please join Kate McCloskey from Stateline Senior Services, as she holds a Medicare Q & A on Tuesday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m.
