Summer Reading Programs for Kids ages 3rd–4th Grade

Build a Better World is our theme this year. The kids’ program lasts seven weeks and is for children age 3 to grade 4. Each week that you read you can hand in a list of your books and get a prize (starting June 17). Sign-up begins in June. The books you read this summer can be counted for the library as well as the Spaulding and McAlister summer reading programs.

Summer Reading Programs for Tweens and Teens, Grades –12

The program will run seven weeks and begins June 17. Each week that you read, fill out a free raffle ticket. You’ll get a prize when you hand in your ticket—and then on the Friday of each week, we will pick two winners. The prizes will be a $25 gift card to Rave Cinemas, Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Target.

Registration is required for all our summer events. You can register online at www.suffield-library.org. You can also call us at 860-668-3896, or stop in to see us at 61 Ffyler Place.

Books for Babies

On Wednesday, June 7, the library, is giving away a board book to Suffield babies born January 1, 2016 through June 2017 at three different times that day: 10:30, 11 and 11:30 a.m. Please sign up for the specific time you can come for this party for parents/caregivers and baby. Each child will receive a free book and reading kit. Reading to young children is the best thing you can do to put them on a path to success. If you cannot attend this program, please let us know, so we can prepare a kit and book for your baby.

Cartooning with Rick Stromoski

Kids ages 6–12 are invited to the library to cartoon with syndicated cartoonist Rick Stromoski on Saturday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. Once a month, Soup 2 Nutz cartoonist Rick Stromoski will be available to instruct beginners on the secret to cartooning. (Please only sign up once a season.) Bring a pad of paper and pencil, and come have fun! Registration is limited.

Read to a Dog

Young readers are invited to practice their reading with a dog from Allan’s Angels Certified Dog Team on Saturday, June 17 between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Think it sounds like fun? Come read to a dog (you can bring a book or pick one out at the library). Individual reading sessions last 15 minutes and are at 10:30 a.m., 10:45, 11 and 11:15 a.m. Come read to a furry friend! Polymer Clay Workshop with Jumping Clay

Children ages 4–7 are invited to the library to build clay figures and shapes on Tuesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. During this 30–45 minute workshop, children will use a nontoxic, mess-free product that won’t crack, crumble, stick or stain. The best part, there’s no baking! You can follow the step-by-step instructions or create your own masterpiece!

Advanced Polymer Clay Workshop with Jumping Clay

Kids ages 8–12 are invited to this hour-long advanced polymer clay workshop on Tuesday, June 20 at 1 p.m. Learn step-by-step modeling instructions for making clay characters, along with color mixing and other creative techniques. No need to bake so you can take your creation home!

Balloon Twisting Workshop with Magically Christina

Kids ages 7 and up are invited to library, on Saturday, June 24 at 10:30 a.m. to make a kangaroo, a dog, a monkey or a giraffe.

Make a Fairy House

Add a bit of fairy magic to your room! Kids ages 7–10 are invited to join the KML staff on Wednesday, June 28 at 1:30 p.m. to assemble and decorate a whimsical fairy house. Once your house is assembled, a battery-powered tea light will create a magical glow as it illuminates a room.

Play Group

The library in Suffield offers a Play Group on Fridays, 10am to noon. Come to Play Group, offered to care-givers and children, Friday mornings any time between 10 a.m. and noon. No age restrictions, no registration required –  just drop in.

Rhyme Time

Join us for Rhyme Time, infants and up. Bring your singing voice on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. We sing, dance, read and have fun! No registration required, just drop in.
