Fourth Picking

In early August, Gaspar picks another leaf of shade tobacco on Ed Markowski’s Ebb’s Corner farm. This was the fourth picking for this good-looking crop, but two days earlier the wind and hail of a severe thunderstorm destroyed many acres of broadleaf in fields on Sheldon Street, Mountain Road and elsewhere.
