Dear Editor,

Martin Luther King said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

Three years ago the Suffield Board of Education was in a time of challenge and controversy. Following the dismissal of the superintendent, almost half the members resigned, severely crippling the board’s ability to find a new management team and continue day to day business.

Jeanne Gee stepped up to take the mantle of leadership. She led a truly non-partisan effort to move the Suffield schools out of those dark days, and did so with grace and charm.

Jeanne has served the citizens of Suffield on the Board for the two terms, missing only one meeting in the last 10 years. Sadly, her tenure concludes on November 7, as she was not renominated by the Republican caucus. One can only wonder what events behind the scenes led to such a decision.

In our time of challenge, Jeanne measured up. Thank you.
