According to the remarks prepared by Suffield Police Chief Richard Brown, the external and independent investigation conducted by the Connecticut Chief State’s Attorney’s Office into the officer involved shooting that occurred on April 13 in the Town of Suffield found that Suffield Police Officer Richard Devin was legally justified in using deadly physical force to defend himself and others around him during the incident.

The incident serves as an illustration of the split second decisions that our police officers are sometimes forced to make for their safety and the safety of the public in the performance of their daily duties.

Officer Devin had been placed on administrative leave at the time of the shooting until such time that the external investigation was completed. With the release of these findings. Officer Devin will be returning to active duty immediately so that he may continue to serve the community of Suffield.
